The Council on Dental Benefit Programs is the ADA agency dedicated to promoting quality dental care through the development, promotion and monitoring of dental benefit programs for the public, as well as by development and maintenance of coding taxonomies and quality assessment and improvement tools and methodologies.
The program was prepared by the ADA’s Council on Dental Benefit Programs; the “Code” is maintained by the Code Revision Committee (CRC), there are twelve voting members, six representing the ADA and six representing the third-party payer community.
There were nearly 130 change requests in the 2-year review and revision cycle leading to the version of the “Code” published in CDT 2011-2012. Approximately 19% were accepted. Acceptance means the CRC was persuaded by the requestor’s rationale for the action. Rationales come from the change request form. The process is open with requests from dentists as well as the ADA and payers.
CRC actions can be appealed.
