Abstract:
The American Dental Association now recognizes nine different positions as members of the dental team (dentist, associate dentist, chairside assistant, dental hygienist, treatment coordinator, infection control coordinator, laboratory technician, business manager, and administrative assistant). Each position has clearly delineated duties and educational requirements that are outlined in this course.
 
Although not every dental office will have a full-time employee for each of those positions, all of the responsibilities are covered by the team. For this reason, it is important the staff members work together as a cohesive team and that they expand their knowledge through continuing education.
 
The course also defines the nine ADA recognized dental specialties and covers the different types of credentials available for dental assistants.
