Abstract:
The dental assistant has an opportunity to create a favorable impression of the dental office while greeting and seating a patient. Dental assistants should be familiar with the patient’s chart and the nature of the visit. They can also use this opportunity to build rapport with the patient by showing concern for the patient and answering his/her questions about dental care. Before each patient is seated in the operatory, the assistant prepares a tray for the procedure about to be performed. It may be a simple prophylaxis or a more complicated restorative procedure. Many offices like to preassemble standardized trays before the appointment. Having sterile, preset trays of organized instruments can reduce stress and increase office efficiency. A preset tray is a collection of instruments or an armamentarium identified for a specific dental procedure. This course describes the various preset trays that are used and lists their components. It also includes a list of commonly used armamentarium and instruments for dental procedures, as well as photographs of instruments. The dental assistant must also ensure that the practice’s treatment rooms are equipped with the appropriate number and types of supplies for effective dental care.
