Dr. Murphy received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University.
He completed his dental training, prosthodontic residency, periodontic residency, anesthesiology clerkship and Master's degree in histology (the anatomy of cells) from the University of Illinois.
Dr. Murphy has received many awards for his research and has published many articles, chapters and books on the field of periodontal regeneration.
Dr. Murphy lectures nationally and internationally on periodontics, prosthodontics and implant dentistry. He has presented courses at the University of Pennsylvania, Tufts University as well as courses for advanced training throughout the United States, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan. Dr. Murphy is currently the president of the Maryland Association of Periodontists.
Dr. Murphy lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife, Lynne Zheutlin, MD, and their three children Seth, Megan and Alison.
Dr. Murphy is active in the Odyssey of the Mind program.
