Periapical Microsurgery: An Update on Surgical Endodontics (Part 2 of 3)
You will receive 1 credit(s) of continuing education credit upon successful completion of this course. The purchase price of this course is $49.00
This second part of this course will demonstrate this procedure to clinicians with step by step instructions and demonstrations through clinical pictures from the initial bony access to proper root-end management. This field is very rarely taught in dental schools and this course provides clinicians a chance to get familiar with this procedure. The goal of this lecture is to familiarize clinicians with this procedure and make them comfortable in performing straight forward periapical microsurgery cases.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to do the following:
- Know how to proceed with the bony access
- Know how to collect the sample for biopsy
- Describe how to obtain proper hemostasis
- Describe how to proceed with a root-end resection
- Describe how to make the root-end cavity preparation
- Know the modern root-end filling materials and how to place them
Modern endodontic microsurgical protocols have shown excellent success rates in clinical studies. Recent studies showed a distinct higher success rate when modern microsurgical techniques were compared to the older traditional techniques in performing apical surgeries. Given the positive success of periapical microsurgery, this procedure should part of the treatment options of failing root canal treated teeth. This lecture has a goal to familiarize clinicians with this procedure. The course will introduce the latest updates in root-end management and will describe how this procedure is done clinically with step by step instructions along with clinical pictures.
